Still Life Glass Sculpture by Shelley Witters
Shelley Witters has worked with cast glass for over ten years having undertaken evening and weekend tuition at Art Station, Ponsonby, Auckland.
She gained a Diploma in Fashion Design & Technology in 1996 from where she developed life drawing skills and a strong interest in visual art forms.
Shelley’s glasswork comprises figure studies, tableware and everyday objects. The textural surface of the work is intended to give expression to it. Her inspiration is to study form, whether it be a tree or a figure or a composition of still life and to bring some animation to its interpretation without exactly recreating it to a literal representation. The object is first created in wax and then cast in glass. The glass fruit used in the casting is from Gaffer Glass, Auckland.
Shelley was a finalist in the Central Otago Art Awards, 2011 with a glass composition of trees and has sold in New Zealand and Australia.
In 2016 Shelley moved to Greytown, New Zealand and now has more time to develop her glass sculpture work.
