A George III period mahogany Secretaire Chest on Ches
The stepped, moulded and dentiled cornice with neo-classic carved ornament, above 2 short & 2 full-width drawers over a secretaire fitted with 10 drawers & pigeon holes, centred with a hinged door inlaid with a boxwood & harewood star, flanked by carved columns enclosing secret compartments & a secret slide opening to a reservoir, a secret compartment is also set behind 2 short drawers to the right, all the drawers retain their original gilt metal axe head handles; the upper section with canted corners with reed & flute detail; the base with 3 full-width drawers above a moulded plinth on ogee bracket feet; the chest retains its original locks, escutcheons, rococo handles & back-plates with moderate replacements to 4 handles .
