A Venetian Engraved and Bevelled Glass Pier Mirror, in the Rococo Taste
The arched rectangular bevelled plate within a conforming marginal frame of engraved glass slips, each worked with scrolling foliate and floral sprays, divided by a facet-cut border of lozenge and oval studs, the corners and side midpoints applied with moulded glass rosette bosses and pointed leaf-form clasps; surmounted by an elaborate pierced cresting centred by a shield-form cartouche engraved with a stylised fleur-de-lis, issuing C-scrolls terminating in rosettes and flanked by radiating feathered acanthus fronds, above conforming scrolled side crestings descending to the shoulders, the glass throughout with bevelled and scalloped edges.
