A Chinese Red and Black Lacquer Low Table
The rectangular top is inset with a red lacquer panel decorated in gilt, and it is framed by a moulded black lacquer border with rounded corners. The panel shows a river landscape with pavilions and terraced buildings among rockwork and gnarled pine and willow trees, with figures gathered on the foreground bank beneath distant hills. The top rests above a shaped apron of lobed, cloud-form profile. It stands on square-section legs ending in inward-scrolled feet, with cusped spandrels at the junctions.
