the lamp comprising a tall tapering rectangular column of slightly battered — inward-sloping — profile, raised upon a plain square stepped plinth base of modest projection.
The exterior surfaces of the column carved or incised overall with a naïve yet charming programme of low-relief decoration: the upper register adorned with a bold quatre-foil or four-petalled rosette motif, the petals rendered with confident, fluid incised lines; the principal face below displaying a further arrangement of stylised foliate forms — large sweeping leaf or palm fronds disposed symmetrically about a central axis.
