The shaped demi-lune top in rouge de France marble with richly veined surface in tones of deep crimson, russet and cream, above a gilt-edged apron of shallow curved profile; supported on a base of two boldly sweeping volute legs of ribbed and reeded form, painted in crème with gilt-highlighted ridges, the legs springing outward and upward from a central compressed gilt sphere before terminating in tightly scrolled feet with pronounced ribbing; the whole conceived as a single fluid sculptural composition in the manner of the Italian Rationalist décoratif tradition.
