Louis XVI Style Ebonised Bureau Plat
Louis XVI Style Ebonised Bureau Plat
A fine ebonised and gilt-brass mounted bureau plat, the rectangular top inset with a rich cognac leather writing surface, tooled and gilt to the border, within a brass-banded surround.
The frieze fitted with five drawers — a long central drawer flanked by two pairs of graduated drawers to either side — each applied with gilt-brass beaded mouldings and fitted with keyhole escutcheons of ormolu. The panelled side returns similarly mounted with brass-banded recessed panels, echoing the restrained neoclassical ornament throughout.
Raised on four square tapering legs of ebonised wood, headed by turned gilt collars and terminating in square brass sabots.
French, Late 19th century
