Early 20th Century French Ormolu Lantern
The cylindrical body is glazed with curved glass panels, one of which is hinged as a door. The panels are divided by fluted pilaster uprights and set beneath a moulded gadrooned cornice. The frieze is hung with beaded swags and tasselled drops, suspended from ribbon-tied bows and rosette paterae. The cornice is mounted with four foliate finials with fanned tops, and from it rise four scrolling suspension arms, each cast with acanthus-leaf and baluster-turned collars, meeting at a central corona. The interior is fitted with three candle nozzles on scrolled branches. The lower rim has a pierced baluster gallery and is hung with four pine-cone pendant finials.
