An Italian Murano Glass Eight-Light Chandelier
An Italian Murano Glass Eight-Light Chandelier
Circa 1940–1960
attributed to Barovier & Toso
The chandelier suspended from a twisted glass rod issuing from a compressed ribbed globe finial, descending to a second larger sphere of work above the central body, from which eight outswept S-scroll arms of twisted glass rise and curve gracefully outward and upward, each terminating in a deep bell-form uplight shade of matching construction — the internal spiral lattice of fine white canes trapped within the clear glass catching and refracting the light with extraordinary brilliance — the arms mounted to a plain rectangular patinated bronze or dark metal armature of restrained, modernist character which provides the sole non-glass element of the composition, each arm fitted for electric illumination.
